As Score Exchange is based in the United Kingdom and the UK is no longer part of the European Union, there are different VAT rules for customers in the EU & UK compared with customers in countries that are not members of the EU or UK.
If you are a customer outside of Europe: (e.g. if you, the buyer are in the USA)
VAT (value added tax – similar to Sales Tax) only applies to customers in the UK & European Union, so if you are outside the UK & EU, then VAT will not apply to your purchase from Score Exchange. The rate will be zero.
If you are a customer in Europe or the UK: (e.g. if you, the buyer are in Germany)
As of January 2015, digital electronic services (such as downloading music from Score Exchange) attract the VAT in the location of the buyer. This means that your local rate of VAT will apply to your purchase. It’s worth noting that some EU countries have reduced or zero rates of VAT for purchased of digital publications such as sheet music. Here is a complete list of EU VAT rates, which is generally kept up to date.
Before January 2015, it was the location of the suppler (Score Exchange is in the United Kingdom) that determined the applicable VAT rate.
