Welcome to my first orchestral piece to be published in SibeliusMusic.com. This prelude is part of a larger symphonic composition (not in the conventional 4 movements) which will be released in due course, though I want to take my time with this one. Meanwhile, this piece can be played as a stand-alone prelude if desired.

The music combines the theme of nature (contemplation of the English Lake district) with the profound, imaginary lakes of personal memory. In the final conception of the larger work the prelude will set the scene for what is to follow.

Please listen to the mp3 file for a better approximation of how is this music to sound like.

Additional note: Opinions below being what they might be, standing as we do at the beginning of the 21st century, I firmly believe that composers have a variety of idioms to compose in, and no single idiom stands as "official" in the present post-serial, post-modern times. I choose for each piece what I feel is best suited, and I have enjoyed composing using a variety of methods from traditional tonality to serialism. The style of this piece is exactly as I want it to be, and I believe that this, per se, does not make the music less relevant to a modern audience.
