Sonata I by Johann Sebastian Bach is an originally work for violin solo. The difficulty in arranging this music for clarinet came with much of the music having double stops, triple stops, and quadruple stops. My method of arrangement was choosing the most appropriate note in the line. In cases where the violin music rolled the chord, I used grace notes. Their came times when more than one note was important. I therefore used a method of having both notes on top of each other as a normal chord, but with the stems going in opposite directions. It is important to play the note with the stem going up first. Then when the duration of that note is over, make a very short pause and start playing the notes with the stems pointing down. This will cause free time, but I believe that is ok. If one decides to perform this, I would highly suggest finding a recording of the original violin version and possibly the original violin music so the performer receives an idea of how the music is meant to sound.
