Welcome to the first movement of my first movement of my Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 21. Stylistically this piece continues the Romantic trend of my Piano Quintet and the fantasia-Homage, though it is much more compact (the exposition is just over 1 minute and with no repeat) and the structure is different. The music moves from dark anxiety to optimism, A minor to A major, with a reflective coda reminiscent of sad things past. There is a lot of nervous agitation in it, influenced by recent events in my country and anxieties for the future. However, this is not program music, circumstantial influences notwithstanding.

There is a substantive adagio in an advanced composing state, and plans for a Rondo finale with a tarantella flavour.

The composer wishes to gratefully acknowledge both Dr Michael Morse and Andrew Honeywell for useful suggestions and encouragement.
