Stylistically this piece continues the Romantic trend of my Piano Quintet and the fantasia-Homage, though it is much more compact (the exposition is just over 1 minute and with no repeat) and the structure is different. The music moves from dark anxiety to optimism, A minor to A major, with a reflective coda reminiscent of sad things past. There is a lot of nervous agitation in it, influenced by recent events in my country and anxieties for the future. However, this is not program music, circumstantial influences notwithstanding.
There is a substantive adagio in an advanced composing state, and plans for a Rondo finale with a tarantella flavour.
The composer wishes to gratefully acknowledge both Dr Michael Morse and Andrew Honeywell for useful suggestions and encouragement.
