According to Grove, ductia is a "Medieval Latin term used by Johannes de Grocheo (De musica, c 1300) to describe two forms: a type of light, rapid song sung by boys and girls for dances and an instrumental dance similar to the estampie." My piece was originally composed for a performance of the medieval Play of Daniel, where it accompanied the entrance of King Belshazar and his court.
Aim for a fast, light performance - no slower than the metronome mark.
