However, today, the piece that is most often performed is 6 Morceaux, Op.85, No.3 Cavatina for Violin and Piano, while many of his other works are not played as frequently. That said, Raff composed many wonderful pieces. In chamber music, he wrote eight string quartets, some of which are exceptionally beautiful. The third movement (Andante con moto) of String Quartet No.3 is not just beautiful but also a very interesting set of variations. The theme is relatively short, only 12 bars long, and has a rustic and humorous character. It is followed by 12 variations, each with a unique musical expression. In the final variation, the original theme is transformed into a hymn-like music, bringing the piece to a quiet close. Throughout the piece, there is a lively exchange between the parts, making it an enjoyable work for those who appreciate ensemble music.
