The Hunting of the Snark - an Agony in Eight Fits was a commission from the Cantate Chamber Singers and was premiered May 1, 2004. In this work the chorus is accompanied by a Snarkestra - an ensemble consisting of instruments reviled by society at large and rejected by people of good taste and common sense. On June 8th 2008, Cantate presented the Snark on an all Saylor concert and, in the days following the concert, recorded the work for commercial release.nnExcerpt from a review of the 2008 performance:nnThe local Cantate Chamber Singers have long championed new music, and on Sunday at the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda they presented two works commissioned from Maurice Saylor, one of the more imaginative composers in town.nnSaylor is nothing if not inventive…"The Hunting of the Snark: An Agony in Eight Fits"…was irresistible from start to finish – clever, deeply engaging, and performed with enthusiasm and evident delight by everyone involved.nn– Stephen Brookes, The Washington PostnnFor more information about the Cantate Chamber Singers, see their website at www.Cantate.org
